DAYS OF AWE: DAYS OF HEAVEN (2022)

"Days of Awe" is a time when Jewish people throughout the world reflect on their past year and ask for forgiveness from anyone they have wronged. The High Holidays begin at sunset on Rosh Hashana, the start of the Jewish New Year and end on Yom Kippur, a day of atonement marking a time for fasting and prayer when we dedicate our mind, body, and soul to reconciliation with our fellow human beings. It's a time for reflection and renewal and also to remember and mourn our family and friends who have passed away. During this New Year of 2022 the light was particularly clear, and felt especially meaningful because of the pandemic and isolation we have all endured during the past two and a half years. I rode my bicycle around the city of Portland and photographed residents as they began gathering in closer proximity in the light of early autumn.
